Chain Tattoos

tattoo designs

Although there are many types of chain tattoos — each with its own particular meaning — in general, they are a symbol of either freedom (if broken) or being bound up (if unbroken). Chain tattoos are usually worn by those who have come from a situation where they felt confined, but have since managed to free themselves.

Many chain tattoos are used for armbands. These often show thick, solid links bound together around the arms. Although these chains are usually unbroken, some may prefer to show one link that has torn loose, while the two connecting sides sag down a bit. Daisy chain tattoos are also quite common for this style. Daisies themselves are considered a symbol of innocence and purity, and may indicate a commitment to maintaining those same characteristics in the wearer’s own life. One unique idea for the armband style would be to create something similar in appearance to jewelry. The chain itself can have small links in gold, silver, or even copper colors that wrap around the upper arm, and have a single strand of chain dangling down the length of the arm. You could also add a small gem, teardrop, or heart to the end of the dangling chain. Another idea would be to stick to the flower theme by wrapping the chains around an arm, with small rose buds bursting through the links.

It is not unusual to see chain tattoos that feature other items, and varying types of chains. For instance, you may see a heart chained and padlocked; a pair of hands bound together on the wearer’s back; a sea creature fighting free from a heavy chain, or a cross wrapped with it. Although heavily linked chains are the most commonly used, some people like to make intricate, swirling patterns with items like bicycle, or motorcycle chains. These often have a look similar to the steampunk style, and feature one of more chains bound into tight circles.

You may see chain tattoos that are transformed into something else altogether. For instance, for a dark, science fiction theme, you may see a human-like alien with a spine made of chain — in fact, this particular item may make up most of the alien’s bodily structure. Broken links can be re-shaped into the image of a heart; melded together with clock parts to create a set of steampunk eyes; or turned into a head of long locks for a pin up-style robot.

Although to many, chain tattoos may be a symbol for an enslaved spirit, to others, it is an emblem for the difficulties they have had to overcome in their lives.

Chain Tattoos

diamond tattoosDiamond tattoos can symbolize many things, and each person who incorporates a diamond into their body art will have to figure out how they want to interpret it. However, diamonds are most commonly a symbol for endurance, and an unbreakable quality that may be seen as a characteristic of the wearer’s own personality. How the diamond is used may also help in interpreting this item’s symbolism; for instance, a golden band with a diamond heart at the center may symbolize unending, and enduring love and fidelity; diamonds threaded into a bouquet of flowers may simply mean beauty, or a diamond meshed in with others bright gems may indicate a certain extravagance.

Many people like their diamond tattoos to be simple. These pieces will generally show the diamond by itself, and show just the basic outlines of the gem. However, despite the lack of surrounding object, many people prefer to make the diamond itself very detailed. They accomplish this by showing every line and crevice; giving the item depth, and randomly placed sparkles. They may also feel the need to include other small, unobtrusive objects like banners with names or dates, or even bright colors reflecting off of the stone.

It is far more common, though, to see diamond tattoos that are mingled other symbols. Flowers, of course, are some of the most popular. For this style you could create a piece with blossoming flowers of your choice with a thick, round diamond at the bud; you could also use the diamond at the center of a flower made entirely of gems (rubies for petals, emeralds for stems, etc). Diamonds placed atop crowns and tiaras are another popular piece. These designs usually show an otherwise simple headpiece with the bold gem sparkling from the top; however, you could also create intricate patterns of diamonds throughout the crown.

Some people like to re-shape the rock in their diamond tattoos. For example, you can shape your diamond into a heart; you can create a golden lattice-work diamond, or create a vine of blossoming jewels. A few interesting ideas would be to form the diamonds into shooting stars that trace across a larger area of your body; create a 3D effect by placing a red diamond onto a blue one, or create a bracelet of diamonds around your arm, ankle or wrist.

Whether they symbolize endurance, true love, or lavishness, diamond tattoos exude a certain beauty and charm, while maintaining a tough meaning. For this reason alone, they are a remarkable piece that is sure to keep you strong.

Bible verse tattoos are usually worn by those with a strong conviction in their Christian faith. However, these verses aren’t worn solely by those with strong convictions; some of the messages that they convey can stretch beyond spiritual beliefs, and are worn to inspire both the wearer, and the people that surround them.

When considering bible verse tattoos, it is important to remember that many of them are very, very long. So, whether it be for body art or otherwise, people tend to paraphrase, or take smaller portions of the verse that contain the meaning they want to convey. However, full verses can be placed on larger areas of the body such as the shoulders or back; they can also be wrapped around an arm or a leg. For a variation on this placement, you could start your verse at the top of the shoulder, and twist the words around your arm until you reach the wrist.

When it comes to bible verse tattoos, many people prefer to do something simple; the worlds alone are usually enough. However, you may also see verses translated into Latin, Italian, and – albeit less frequently – in kanji script. You may see the verse in small, scrawling letters (as if written by hand), or in large, bold gothic print. They are usually done in simple blank ink, but you may occasionally see them in shining, golden hues; dark blues, or occasionally in brighter reds or oranges. They may also be placed within a skin toned, white, or brightly colored ribbon. These are generally on the larger side, and are usually placed across the chest, shoulders, or around a hip.

Some people prefer bible verse tattoos that are a bit bolder in design. These are often surrounded by other religious symbols such as doves, the Ichthys symbol, crosses, or even palm fronds (Christian symbols of victory and martyrdom). Many people also like to enhance their bible verse tattoos with an intricate border. These may be something as simple as a vine of ivy or white lilies surrounding the print; or something more ornate, like a gilded frame or a gem-like mosaic. For a different take on adding a border, you could surround your verse with a book, or rather, an open bible. You could also place you script within something akin to a stained glass window. This ‘window’ frame could vaguely depict the scene from which your particular verse was plucked.

Although bible verse tattoos are used predominately by people of Christian or Catholic faiths, the messages that they express have a universal appeal that make them both a fascinating and enduring piece of art.
