Frogs are often a symbol of regeneration, life and harmony. In fact, frogs have a good deal of symbology behind them. For instance, in ancient Egypt, the frog was thought to be a protector and guide to the afterlife. Many Native American tribes believe that the frog brings rain and a numerous amount of modern Christians wear a frog symbol due to the acronym ‘forever rely on God.’ For these and many other reasons, frog tattoos are gaining a bit more popularity.
There are a wide variety of frog tattoos to be had. Some of the most popular are the more realistic styles; one of the most common types being the tree frog. These bright green frogs with orange feet and red eyes make for great designs, and are often shown in either their natural habitat, or climbing up a wearers arm or leg. Another popular type are dart and mantella frogs. These are exceptionally poisonous, and thus very vivid in coloring, and sometimes sport interesting patterns along their bodies. Poisonous frogs may add a bit of an edge to these tattoos, and may be used as a symbol of the personality of its wearer; beautiful, yet untouchable.
Some people may prefer a more cartoon-like depiction for their frog tattoos. These pieces often show the frog in a crouching position with a cute, or sometimes an almost sarcastic look to its face. Many cartoon frog tattoos show the creature with its tongue poised for lapping at flies, or sitting peacefully in a pond on a water lily.
Tribal and Aztec frog tattoos are also an interesting twist on this design. The tribal frog is usually done in long, sharp black strokes. The Aztec version is more stylized and will depict a frog with a round body and eyes; long, winding limbs and fork-like toes. A depiction of Heqt (or Hekt) may also make for an interesting design. This Egyptian goddess was said to have the head of a frog and was a symbol of Resurrection. You could recreate this by using the traditional Egyptian art which featured stately gods, goddesses and royalty in profile; reshaping the head in the smooth yellow and black appearance of the Panamanian golden frog.
Frog tattoos may not be as widely popular as other designs, but this may very well be a good thing, as you are almost certain to make a unique statement with this piece.

Frog Tattoos
Dove tattoos can symbolize a number of things to a number of people; a dove may carry the traditional meaning of peace, the religious meaning of the Holy Spirit, or may carry messages of hope, innocence and purity.
Many people like to use the literal translation of this peaceful bird, while others prefer to use a more bold version. Realistic dove tattoos generally feature a black and white, or skin toned bird in flight, occasionally carrying an olive branch, or flower in its beak. They may be shown on their own, sketched inside an outdoor scene, or flying free from a pair of outstretched hands. The bolder equivalent will often have vivid colors, such as blue or even multicolored wings, and frequently feature brightly hued symbols like roses, flames or stars.
Dove tattoos can be placed in a unique setting. One idea would be a stained glass dove. You can create something that appears similar to a stained glass window, with a varying array of colors; in the center you could place Picasso’s “Dove of Peace.” You could also go for a more arresting version of this design, and have it appear to be bursting through a circular pane of glass, the glass being in shards of sunny colors. Many people also like to create dove tattoos that are akin to the 1950’s diving swallow. The swallow was said to be tattooed upon a sailor’s chest, so that if he should drown at sea, his soul would be carried to the heavens. If a dove replaces a swallow in this particular tattoo design, it could very well be a symbol of protection and a peaceful journey to the afterlife. This design may also feature recognizable 50’s symbols; it may be surrounded by nautical stars or carry a bright red bunch of cherries in its beak.
Dove tattoos may also carry eloquent messages of love. Given that this particular bird mates for life, it is not uncommon to see a design featuring two doves laying close together in a newly built nest. You can also feature a dove on each shoulder carrying a banner with dates and names. The names may be those of loved ones, and dates can range from marriage date, to the date of newly born children.
For most people, when seeing a dove it is hard to think of it as simply being another bird. The many signs this creature bears make it one of the most significant symbols in tattoo art.

Dove Tattoos
It may seem strange to some why a person would get a turtle printed on their body, but given that turtle tattoos are said to be a symbolization of wisdom, patience and even a sign of longevity, the whole idea makes a lot more sense.
Many turtle tattoos show this creature in a more realistic fashion; a brown head and limbs with shells that range in color from green and yellow, to varying shades of reds and browns. Some may choose to make their turtle tattoos brighter, using bold sea colored blues, neon greens and light purples. It is also fairly common to see a turtle with its literal shape, but with a variety of other symbols placed upon its shell, such as flowers, peace and yin yang signs.
Turtle tattoos can either be placed by them self, or within in a scene. There are many stories that go along with this fascinating reptile, and these stories can be used to create fantastic pictures. One example of this is the myth that the Earth is carried on the back of a large turtle. For this story, you can depict the turtle floating just below the surface of the ocean with a large forest upon its shell; you can also show the turtle with its back facing the onlooker. This depiction can be made very elaborate with small towns and cities, forests, people and other animals.
Many people like to spice up their turtle tattoos by mixing the turtle with other creatures. Some of the most common mixtures include fire breathing dragons, winged angels and occasionally, broadly grinning demons. Another variation are tribal and calligraphy designs. These two styles vary, but are similar in the fact that the lines are often quite dark and sharp. The tribal style will often feature a well rounded head and pointed fins, with an intricate design on the back. The calligraphy approach generally shows broad, sweeping strokes, as if printed directly from a pen.
Many people also like to use a cartoon style in their turtle tattoos. Some people like to use something akin to a comic strip; large, almost detached eyes and a large grin, with a heavy shell that looks similar to a loose sweater. There can also be props in this style, like boxing gloves, crowns and sometimes even homes carried on their back.
So whether you simply have an affinity for these peaceful creatures, or feel that these brave and steady reptiles connect with your own personality, turtle tattoos are a unique way to express yourself.
