Yin Yang Tattoos

tattoo designs

Yin yang tattoos have always been a symbol to their wearers of the duality of life and nature. The yin yang is an expression of light and dark, life and death, male and female. In fact, it is an expression of all of life’s contrasts.

There are a variety of ways that you can display yin yang tattoos, and it all comes down to what you say with your tattoo. There is an endless amount of symbols that can go along with this style, such as flowers (which have an assortment of meanings of their own), hearts, stars, fire and countless other symbols.

The yin yang can be created into a symbol of love for some, as the yin cannot exist without the yang. This can easily be expressed by morphing the traditional round emblem into a heart shape and surrounding it in roses. Other people like to use yin yang tattoos as a symbol of strength and place it on the breastplate of a warrior in battle; or with a white dragon wrapped around a black circle, and a black dragon wrapped around a white circle.

You can also use the elements in your yin yang tattoos. Using contrasting elements such as water and fire, or earth and a gusty depiction of air can create an interesting counterpoint. Some people also like to use animals or fantasy creatures in this style. An example of this would be showing a meek-looking rabbit wrapped around one side and fierce tiger on the other. For a more interesting effect, this can be done in a similar style to Japanese watercolors.

There are so many ways you can use yin yang tattoos to show your understanding and acceptance of all of life’s variety. Find the symbol that expresses just how you think and feel, and mix it with this simple, elegant figure.

However you look at it, horseshoes are a symbol of good luck. Many people use this icon to either ward off bad luck, or bring good fortune. Given that for many centuries people have seen tattoos as a sort of talisman to protect themselves from harm; it is understandable why someone would use horseshoe tattoos as their amulet.

One of the more obvious depictions is the gambling horseshoe. With this style, there is a mixture of luck-bearing symbols such as a four leaf clover, a hand of cards with a royal flush, or even high numbered dice. Many of these designs also feature a pinup girl either in the bust style; or full body, usually lying along the length of the horseshoe, one leg kicked playfully into the air.

Many people also like to feature winning racehorses in their horseshoe tattoos. These usually show the head and neck of a horse peering through the design. But one interesting idea is to show the raised leg sporting a golden horseshoe, surrounded by a wreath of camellia, white carnation or clover (all symbols of good luck).

Horseshoe tattoos can also be very simple. They may feature the old-time vision of a dark, worn metal; or they may be more modern and intricate, even showcasing a bold Celtic scroll work. When using horseshoe tattoos in this style, it is good to know that a shoe pointing down is a sign of expelling the bad, and a shoe pointing up is the opposite; that is, gathering up the good.

So whether you are trying to bring yourself a bit of extra luck, or trying to protect yourself from misfortune, horseshoe tattoos may be just the badge you are looking for.

The horror genre has been a huge success in both film and literature. These stories tap into our deepest fears and create a mental and emotional stir in us. Many people love the rush that comes with fear, and quite a few of these people like to express their passion for the genre with horror tattoos.

Most horror tattoos depict a character or scene from a well loved horror film. Most of these pieces feature classic movie characters such as Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster. Some people like to use more graphic characters; a tattoo of a large jawed alien bursting through the skin is not an uncommon sight. Some people also like to use cult film figures such as ‘Basket case’ and the abominable snowman from 1954’s ‘The Snow Creature.’

Some horror tattoos depict the creative vision of a character or scene from literature. A favorite for many enthusiasts is, of course, Edgar Allen Poe. These tattoos may show a raven scowling at the observer, or the image of a beautiful woman beginning to decay. Many of H.P. Lovecraft’s stories were created into masterful and terrifying pieces of art that can, in turn, be created into broad and vivid horror tattoos.

Most horror tattoos, however, take bits and pieces from many different sources to create a vision that the wearer may find particularly scary. In this instance, there are many options to choose from: a fiendish-looking sideshow barker showing off unearthly creatures; zombies roaming the streets of a dark city, or skeletons in the midst of a battle.

The horror genre will likely always have a place in people’s hearts; the rush of excitement that can come from fear itself, and the thrill of knowing that it simply is not real, makes this style an enduring one.
